Ibrahim's Web
Here's a funny little story for you! We are reading the book Charlotte's Web. I'm sure all of you are familiar with the story! Well the other day one of my students, Ibrahim, came in a little late. I told him to get settled because we needed to start our Fact Practice test in math. He came over to my desk and said, "Miss Sarah, I can't take the math test because I need to do something else that's very important!" As you might be able to tell from the picture Ibrahim is a bit of a clown and so I was a little leary of what he was going to do. He assured me that it wasn't bad and that it wouldn't be a distraction. And since I'm such a softy when it comes to kids like that I agreed! Well, the next time I looked up he was using the corner of the room to construct his own little web! He told me he wanted to leave it because that way if there were any spiders in our room it would save them the work of having to make a web themselves. Anyway, the web lasted for about half the day, but it was a great encourager for me. Sometimes it's frustrating here, because I feel like I'm the first teacher to ever make the kids think for themselves. I know that it's not true, but based on how the kids respond when I make the do it, you would think it is. So sometimes little moments like this that show they are thinking beyond just the literal really boost my spirits! :)I hope you all have a great Valentines Day! Do something special with the people you love, and you can be thinking of me as I spend my first official Valentines Day as a part of a couple, away from my Valentine! :(
